The Toddler's Guide to Climbing onto a Bench

During our walk last November during which Calvin impressed me with his jumping, he also demonstrated the toddler way to crawl onto a park bench.  Observe:
Or, in case you want to see it demonstrated from another angle...

Climbing up from the front would be too boring - where's the challenge in that???  He just started squeezing his way through the arm-rest loop, as if it was the obvious thing to do.  Good thing he did it a few times so I could get some pics.

jumping

On a mild fall day last November Calvin and I took a walk on the neighborhood path that circles the little pond near our house.  On that walk Calvin practiced his jumping.  Over every crack in the sidewalk, in and out of the little gazebo, over and over, Calvin was jumping.  Fortunately I had my camera and was able to get a few good pics of his new skill.

Then, a week ago (mid-Feb), Calvin decided he wanted to jump over a floor puzzle of a firetruck he had just finished putting together.  It was an impressive distance for him to clear, at least from the perspective of a 3 year-old's mom seeing it for the first time, and he did it with lots of room to spare.
Calvin's standing long jump over the firetruck puzzle, recreated earlier today.

I think I see track and field in his future.
