Halloween 2014

(written Oct 31, 2014)

There is a lot of excitement about Halloween in our house this year.  Way more than any holiday over the past four and a half years.  This is so much fun!

Spiders and bats and pumpkins decorate walls and tables and doors.  A witch's had rests on the banister post.  Halloween lights surround Calvin's bedroom window.  Pumpkins are carved.  We are ready.
Calvin completely designed his pumpkin, but daddy helped carve it.

Our new neighborhood has tons of kids, and since we all live in townhouses, we are all pretty densely packed.  Trick or treating was busy and lucrative.  Calvin was so excited.

This year Calvin decided that he wanted to be a Formula 1 race car.  Bryan took the challenge without hesitation, changing it a little so that Calvin is the driver in the car.  Bryan and his dad (Grandpa Mike) worked to get the car built, and Bryan finished the details.  Calvin helped as much as he could, but most of this project was for the big kids.
Mike and Bryan assemble the car, which was mostly made out of cardboard, foamboard, posterboard, duct tape, and hot glue.

Calvin is supervising the spray painting of pieces to his racecar.

This morning, Calvin got to wear his costume at his preschool during a school-wide parade down the sidewalk.  He had lots of help keeping it level (it is a little back-heavy), though he really didn't need the help.

Then trick or treating tonight covered many sets of townhouses, and Calvin navigated the narrow steps and front porches very well - he didn't crash off into the bushes or into another kid even once (that I saw, anyway).

Here's to imagination and creativity on one of the best days of the year!
